By the first glimpse of this you can tell the purpose of the photo is to show that I love music and what music has brought to my life. The first thing I think about when someone asks to describe my family is music. My family is a very musically talented family. When I got the prompt of the project I knew right away where my picture would take place. I took the photo in front of all of my dad’s collected vinyl records. That spot in the house is where we go to relax and let loose while listening to music as a family, which is my very favorite thing to do.
From the day I was born I have been surrounded by guitars, loud speakers, and many different types of music. My father is in a band and has played guitar since he was 13. He recently in the past year traveled and toured in Europe. I believe that my love for music is so heavily enforced because of my father. My father’s dad, my grandfather, was also in a band growing up and he often played shows and toured too. Although I do not having any musical talent myself, other than the amazing vocal sessions in the shower, my sister is a very talented singer, guitarist, and sometimes even a pianist. My parents made sure that growing up I listened to a wide variety of music so I could broaden my taste of music when I grew up, which I sure did. I listen various artists going from Tom Petty to Tupac. There is constantly music playing throughout my house, whether it is records playing while making dinner, dad’s band practice in the studio, or even just my speaker in my room. To get away I throw on my headphones and I am immediately sane. Music is my gateway to happiness. To make my self portrait unique I used different filters, editing tools, and text from the app Pixlr. To begin I uploaded my photo and then immediately did a double exposure with the picture of music notes from a piano book to fade into the background. I lightened the photo so that it would be barely noticeable. I then chose a vintage filter so that I could make it a lot more rustic looking, being that the records are so old I thought that it would fit very well. I then darkened the edges and added a border that faded into the photo. With the last finishing touches I added one more filter called Ingrid to make the colors on the image pop more, especially the outline of my body. As I looked at the picture all finished I thought it would be appropriate to add my favorite quote by Stevie Wonder, who I admire very much so. “Music is a world within itself with a language we all understand”, it reads. I love music and I love the fact that this project gave me the opportunity to express that to you and my fellow classmates.
